Money Heist Spin-off Series on Berlin in Works at Netflix; Set to Arrive in 2023!

The news was dropped at a question and answer session

Good news for Money Heist fans! A spin-off series focusing on fan-favorite character Berlin (Pedro Alonso) is in the works. Netflix hosted a massive Money Heist themed event on Tuesday, with more than 5000 fans attending the event. There, they discussed the future of the characters, and related shows.

But first, check out the announcement teaser below.

An origin story

We will be saying goodbye to the series that had kept us on the edge of our seats for the past five years, but we won’t have to say goodbye to everyone just yet. The universe created by Alex Pina lives on, and as Pedro Alonso excitedly announced, Berlin is returning in 2023. This time, it will be an origin story and we will be seeing the character up close.

Alonso defined it as the end of one cycle and the beginning of another. He recalled talking to Jesús Colmenar, the director of Money Heist, and they were both talking about walking into the unknown, open to anything happening and without expectations. He said that the creators and showrunners will be giving the series every possible twist and turn, and that making spin-offs of such a popular show can be a burden and a prison, but he hopes that everyone uses their wonderful energy to risk everything again.

The character’s popularity

As mentioned earlier, Berlin was one of the highlights of Money Heist, despite dying early. He was a charmer, a liar, misogynistic, a sexual predator, eccentric, and very violent. Viewers hate and love him equally, and he is a multi-dimensional character who can be explored well in a solo series.

In other news, Money Heist will soon roll out its Korean remake, where Berlin will be portrayed by Squid Game star Park Hae-soo.

Don’t miss the premier of Money Heist Part 5 Volume 2 on December 3.
