Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Leatherface Returns after 50 Years in the New Netflix Original Movie

Leatherface’s targets are influencers this time

Netflix has released the official trailer for the sequel to 1974’s horror classic, Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This movie is a direct sequel, and has ignored all the reboots that happened over the past 50 years. Read on to know more.

The story

As per the premise, Leatherface, the chainsaw-wielding psychopath with an identity disorder, had spent the last 50 years in hiding. However, when a group of idealistic, social media-savvy friends disrupt his peace in a remote Texas town, he decides to take up his chainsaw once again.

The influencers consist of Melody (Sarah Yarkin), her teen sister Lila (Elsie Fisher), and their friends Dante (Jacob Latimore) and Ruth (Nell Hudson). They head over to the remote town of Harlow, Texas for a new business venture. Little did they know that the town contained a deranged serial killer. The residents are aware of his presence, especially Sally Hardesty (Olwen Fouéré). Sally was the sole survivor from the group that met Leatherface in the 1973 massacre. Fouéré has taken over the character from original actor Marilyn Burns, who passed away in 2014.

The trailer showed the franchise’s signature brutality, with plenty of blood and gore. Heads were axed, bodies were ripped apart by the chainsaw, and the youngsters got to watch their friends die horribly in front of them. Leatherface is also pretty spry, despite being 50 years older. Even a “You’re cancelled bro” threat from one person doesn’t deter him (sorry, cancel culture).

Release date

There had been eight films so far since the original, but none came close to it. From the comments, people are not overly excited for the new movie, but are still giving it a chance. Perhaps Netflix can undo everyone’s doubts.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre arrives on Netflix Feb. 18.
