Hellblade 2 Producer Promises a Game so Big it Makes the First Part Look Like an Indie Project

Senua returns, but with Microsoft funding

Ninja Theory, the developers of Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 has just amped up the hype for the game. The sequel to 2017’s Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice was announced 2 years ago, and we are now closer to the release. However, we can see why they are taking their sweet time. The game looks massive, and magnificent, and they haven’t even shown a proper trailer.

Let’s read on.

Director’s statement

In an interview with NME, director Tameem Antoniades dished out on some interesting details. He was asked whether the sequel’s goal was to “perfect” the first Hellblade. To this, Antoniades replied that the sequel will make the original look like an indie project.

Some of you may not know but the original consisted of a small team and a very light budget. However, it grabbed eyes with the story and characters. Ninja Theory was then purchased by Microsoft, and this allowed the team to be more ambitious. Plus, a much, much, bigger budget.

Online backlash

Coming back to the interview, Antoniades said that the goal wasn’t to perfect the original. It was to make it more refined and believable. To create things in a larger scale. However, he was met with a lot of backlash and confusion. Many stated that the first Hellblade was an indie game in the first place. Others were mad that that this comment perpetuated negative stereotypes about indie games. Especially when there are so many good games out there.

This was indeed a very choice of words, as games like Among Us, Shovel Night, and Undertale are some of the biggest indie games out there. Let’s hope that Antoniades thinks over his statement again.
