‘Wicked’: Fans Petition Filmmakers to Not Include James Corden After his Previous Performances

Signatures have reached above 24,000 and still counting

When James Corden is not the host of The Late Late Show, he occasionally stars in movies. However, his late two movie roles were critically panned.

And now, a fan-made petition is out, against casting James Corden in the upcoming Wicked movie. In just two days, the signatures have gone above 24K signatures. The classic musical first had its live action debut on Broadway in 2003, and served as a prequel to The Wizard of Oz.

Wicked tells the story of Glinda The Good Witch and Elpheba, who later came to be known as the Wicked Witch of the West. Universal has cast Ariana Grande as Glinda, and Cynthia Erivo as Elpheba. The movie will be directed by Jon M. Chu, who had done Crazy Rich Asians and In The Heights.

People don’t usually care about the casting for musicals, but this time it was different. While the majority of the casting choices were approved, hearing James Corden’s name brought a frown. A netizen named Mikel Miller created a Change.org petition to keep Corden out of the musical, saying the late show host is in no shape or form to be in or near the production of the movie. Many have supported this whole heartedly, as we can see from the signatures.

Corden’s notorious roles

The Prom

James Corden has become synonymous with musicals that have been box office nightmares. He was cast in Cats, The Prom, and CinderellaCats was termed as one of the worst films ever released, with the story and CGI being equally bad.

We are not aware if the petition is a joke or not, but Corden has always fallen prey to some sort of trolling. In fact, he was trolled for stopping traffic to conduct a flash mob to promote Cinderella, and his role as a gay man in The Prom infuriated many. Perhaps, it would be best for the actor to take a break from musicals.
