Auditions for Madonna biopic- what is the status?
It seems the search for the actress playing the iconic role of Madonna is still going on. Everyone can agree to the fact that playing the Material Girl is a dream role for many young actresses. And the team is searching for every possible option- right from Emmy winners, Oscar nominees and even singers who became actresses.
Sources revealed that the auditions for the Queen of Pop’s biopic is “gruelling” and can involve around 11 hour choreography sessions sometimes with Madonna’s choreographer. Following that, there’s another choreography session with the pop star herself.
A representative with insider knowledge said that the auditions have been going on since months.
Who are the potential candidates for Madonna’s role?
Universal will be the distributor for the biopic. For now, the movie did not receive a green signal since the major factor is still not decided- the cast. However, some names are coming up for the plum role.
Ozark actress Julia Garner and Lady Macbeth star Florence Pugh are definitely in the race along with Euphoria star Alexa Demie. Some other eligible candidates include The Daughter’s Odessa Young, Mayor of Kingstown actress Emma Laird and Euphoria actress Sydney Sweeny.
Meanwhile, the casting team also included some musical artists in the list like Bebe Rexha and Sky Ferreira. The latter even played a small part in Baby Driver and the Twilight Zone collection.
Madonna’s take on the biopic situation
While being on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the Hung Up artist said that many people tried to write movies on her, but they were always men. However, an announcement came out in 2020 that Madonna can direct a biopic with Universal and Oscar winner Diablo Cody will co-write the screenplay.
However, Cody quit the mission and Erin Cressida Wilson is taking over. For now, everyone is just waiting to see which actress will get to play the iconic role.
