The Last Kingdom‘s forthcoming season will not be the end of the franchise. Yes, you read that right! Makers of the show have decided to give the franchise an epic ending with a feature-length film. The feature is titled, Seven Kings Must Die and will premiere on Netflix.

The Last Kingdom movie to give an epic end!

At the London MCM Comic Con, held on October 24, Alexander Dreymon, who plays the lead role of the historical series, revealed that a new two-hour feature film of The Last Kingdom franchise is in works by Netflix. It was also revealed that the filming of Seven Kings Must Die will begin in early 2022, ahead of the release of the upcoming final season of the saga.

Recently, Carnival Films declared that the fifth season expected to drop in 2022 would mark the end of the historical drama. Nevertheless, the zeal of the fanatics led the show makers to explore if there is anything more to add to the story. Dreymon (Uhtred) expressed that he’s so grateful to the show’s fans as they have been immensely loyal to The Last Kingdom. In fact, he gives credit for the idea of the feature film to the show’s fans. Further, the actor stated that Seven Kings Must Die will be an epic end to a wonderful journey.

Seven Kings Must Die: Cast 

The Last Kingdom is an adaptation of Bernard Cornwell’s Saxon Stories. Although it was initially licensed by BBC2, eventually, the show headed to Netflix. Dreymon will reprise his role Uhtred of Bebbanburg in the prospective feature. Though Carnival Films is mute about the special’s cast, we can expect many of The Last Kingdom‘s cast to return, joined by some new ones.

Ed Bazalgette will take up the director’s role for the two-hour special, with Dreymon executive producing it along with writer Martha Hillier.
