‘The Exorcist’ Reboot Coming From Director David Gordon Green, Filming Starts After Halloween

The movie get sequels as well

1973’s The Exorcist still serves as one of, if not the most, scariest movies ever made. The movie has reigned at the top, with very few others managing to be at that level. It even received an Academy Award for Best Picture. It has had some sequels which were not so successful. But now, it’s time for the old spirit to rise from its grave because a reboot is currently in production with director David Gordon Green at the helm.

Green, who is currently promoting his latest movie Halloween Ends, shared some information on his upcoming project. He let eager fans know that The Exorcist will begin in a “couple of weeks,” according to a statement given to Variety. The timing is impeccable since it’s Halloween season. He said that there is an amazing new cast with scripts that they’re all excited about.

Green started out directing dramas and comedies, but he struck a chord with the fans after taking the director’s chair for the rebooted Halloween franchise. He managed to bring the slasher film to its lost glory after numerous unsuccessful films came since the original. So if anyone can direct William Friedkin’s The Exorcist for the modern audience, it’s him.

A Trilogy

The Exorcist is getting the Halloween treatment and will become a trilogy. Universal Studios has taken over the franchise and has invested a hefty $400 million for the three films. Ellen Burstyn, a veteran in the franchise, is also returning after turning down the offer in past installments, so it’s an added reason for fans to be hyped. The reboot stars Leslie Odom Jr., Ann Dowd, Scott Teems, and Danny McBride. Green has written the script alongside Peter Sattler.

With production about to begin, The Exorcist will arrive on October 13, 2023, on the 50th anniversary of the original.
