Riverdale Goes Classic in Celebration of the Show’s 100th Episode as Rivervale Nears its End

The return of many familiar characters are teased

The CW’s Riverdale is soon going to celebrate its 100th episode. The show is currently at the final stages of the “Rivervale” arc, which is filled with the supernatural, and also brings in Sabrina the Teenage Witch (Kiernan Shipka). Ahead of the release of chapter ninety-nine, “The Witching Hour(s),” the CW and Archie Comics have already shared some images on what’s yet to come.

The classic looks

Shared via E! Online, the images offer a 1950s aesthetic, with Archie and the gang, as well Pop Tate’s all looking like their classic comic counterparts. The event is actually just part of a fever dream that showed the “Rivervale” town, set in an alternate timeline. Archie has his iconic bow tie and sweater west with the big R on his chest, while Jughead is in his blue turtleneck with the big S and rocking his crown. Betty and Veronica also sported the same outfits and hairstyles they had in the ’50s comics.

We got to see glimpses of such an event in the very first season of Riverdale, even though there wasn’t anything supernatural happening at the time. The new episode looks more about celebrating and invoking nostalgia for many of the older readers of the hit comic books. We even see classic comic books in the book stand inside the diner.

Something sinister

As the whole event is a fever dream, there will be a feeling of uneasiness depicted throughout the episode. We can expect to see the cast laughing, making jokes, Betty and Veronica competing over Archie, or Jughead demanding more milk shakes and burgers, but seeing Shannon Purser’s Ethel Muggs, Major Curda’s Dilton Doiley, and Locklyn Munro’s Hal Cooper is disturbing. After all, both Dilton and Hal are dead.

Episode 100 of Riverdale will premiere on The CW on December 14, 2021.
