New Doctor Who Actor Revealed In BBC Surprise – And its Ncuti Gatwa!

The Sex Education star will debut as the Time Lord in 2023

We have a new Doctor Who! Ncuti Gatwa, best known for playing Eric in Netflix’s Sex Education will be boarding Tartarus in the upcoming seasons. The 29-year-old actor will follow Jodie Whittaker and will become the 14th Time Lord. Gatwa was born in Rwanda, and grew up in Scotland. He spoke about his new role to BBC and described it as a true honor, and that it feels really amazing.

Series showrunner Russell T Davies spoke about Gatwa’s casting, and said he impressed everyone in the room with a “blazing” audition. He said that the star was their very last candidate, and they already had their eye on one person. But he came in and impressed all of them in a flash. Davies also posed with Gatwa for a selfie at the Baftas red carpet. At the time, Gatwa had been nominated for Best Male Performance in a Comedy for Sex Education.

He is very popular with young audiences, and has 2.5 million followers on Instagram. He can bring in new fans for Doctor Who, which already has a massive fanbase. It’s already clear from numerous tweets that many of his fans will be checking out Doctor Who before his season airs.

Additionally, the show can take a different turn under Davies’ leadership. BBC’s chief content officer Charlotte Moore said that Ncuti’s dynamism is incredible, and he is striking and fearless. His energy is capable of taking Doctor Who on even more extraordinary adventures.
