Kim Han-bin aka B.I Sentenced in 2016 Drug Case

The prosecution requests a sentence for B.I over the 2016 drug case.

The popular K-pop boyband iKON’s former leader, Kim Han-bin, aka B.I, received a decree of 3 years behind bars over the violation of the Law on Narcotics Management.

On September 10, the Seoul central district court sentenced B.I to three years in prison and four years of probation. In addition, the prosecution subjected him to 80 hours of social service and 40 hours of drug treatment lectures. Further, he was asked to pay a fine of 1.5 million won (approximately $1300).

The 25-year-old musician was formally accused in May of purchasing drugs in 2016. B.I was accused of purchasing LSD, a super-powerful hallucinogen, and smoking Marijuana on three occasions between April-May 2016. On account of the same, the court sentenced B.I to 3 years in prison and 4 years of probation.

The trial judge stated “What he did, can’t be regarded as a crime that occurred due to simple curiosity, and celebrity drug usage has a great impact on society. However, he acknowledged all the charges, reflected, and considered the fact that he was a super criminal.”

Ensuing his drug allegations, B.I left the band in 2019. In addition, Yang Hyun-suk, the CEO of YG Entertainment also gave up his position on June 14, 2019, post the allegations of trying to cover up B.I’s drug case. He was further accused of blackmailing an informant who had asserted against B.I.

what does B.I have to say about it?

During the first trial that happened on August 27 B.I defended himself saying he made a completely foolish mistake in the past. He was young and naive, but even so, he was foolish for what he did, he continued. He hurt his family. For a time, he thought that he no longer wanted to live, he concluded.

After the sentencing, B.I. said to the reporters, “I will live as I strive to be forgiven by those who have been sick because of me. I sincerely apologize.”
