GOOGLE DOODLE CELEBRATES ANNA MAY WONG, THE FIRST CHINESE-AMERICAN MOVIE STAR

Google doodle has altered their homepage on Wednesday to celebrate and commemorate Anna May Wong one of the notable historical figure and actress.

Anna Wong was considered to be the first Chinese American Actress who had gained international recognition. She claimed her first leading role in 22nd January 1922 in the silent film The Toll of the Sea. Her acting in the film had reached to American audiences.

Google doodle is celebrating on Wednesday 22nd January 2020, Anna Wong’s 98th Anniversary of her first leading role through depicting a slideshow of artwork in the morning. Sophie Diao was the artist of the slideshows who stated that she wished she knew of Anna Wong when she was a child looking Chinese American role models in Hollywood. She further stated that Asian American Actors are underrepresented even now,so amazingly Anna May Wong was so active right at the beginning of the film history, bridging the gap between silent films and talkies. The artist also first learn about Anna through working on Doodle.

The Google Doodle slideshows represented Anna May Wong’s life from beginning to her struggles as to how she achieve international recognition and fame. The slides are all in black and white giving in each scene a sense of depth.

The artist also wanted to nod to Wong’s humble beginnings working in her parents’ laundry to show how far the actress came.
