David Fincher confirms that he would like to “revisit” “Mindhunter” but also said that series is dead for now. Here is why

Mindhunter’s producer, David Fincher said he would like to revisit the series but for now the series is dead. The plot of the series was set as crime drama and psychological thriller. The series was although renewed for its second season but it could not make it to third season of the show. Although the series was hit enough on Netflix and was among the best thrillers on OTT but it was unable to gain enough viewers.

The first season of the series was released on 13th of October, 2017 and the second season was released on 16th of August. 2019. After the release of second season, Netflix in January 2020 announced that the series will be on indefinite hold.

David Fincher said that the series was originally planned to have two more season and was supposed to end with the case of Dennis Rader

Dennis Rader was mostly known as BTK killer, who was active in between 1974 and 1991. He murdered 10 people in Wichita and Park City, Kansas. Moreover, he used to send letters to police by detailing about his crimes in it. He was finally arrested in 2005.

However, Fincher already made it clear that there will be NO third season of the series. It does not matter whether the series was hit among the viewers since it was unable to gain enough audience. Also, the budget of the series was very high and Fincher did not wanted to risk it.

The show was based on “Mindhunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit” by John Douglas Mark Olshaker. The original creator of the series was Joe Penhall. Other than David Fincher the series was also produced by Charlie Theron, Joe Penhall, Cean Chaffin, Joshua Donen and Courtenay Miles.

The series starred Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, Hannah Gross, Cotter Smith, Anna Torv, Stacey Roca and many more.
