The musical will be out in 2024

It’s been just over two months since Todd Philips announced Joker 2. With that comes the latest bit of exciting news: Lady Gaga has officially been casted as Harley Quinn, Joker’s love interest. Joker 2, presently titled Joker: Folie A Deux, is set to release on October 4, 2024, around the same time as its 2019 predecessor. The teaser, which Gage shared, was a short clip announcing the lead pair’s names, along with the infamous Batman villain’s iconic laugh. Silhouettes of Joker and Harley Quinn appear, dancing against a dark red backdrop with jazz music.

What’s unique is the film being a musical, as compared to the dark and gritty first film. Casting Gaga takes importance here, seeing how was the lead in the Academy Award winning A Star is Born. While musicals are not everyone’s cup of tea, one featuring the iconic villain will definitely catch everyone’s attention.

The Movie’s Success

Warner Bros. has been fumbling a great deal with the DC Extended Universe, but their solo movie game is still strong. They cancelled Batgirl, and might have a few more to cancel down the way as Discovery looks to reshape things. But all seems smooth for Joker 2, as well as Matt Reeves’ sequel for The Batman as they exist outside the shared universe, telling their own stories.

The sequel will be directed by Todd Phillips once again, as the studio trusts in the director to deliver another blockbuster similar to its predecessor. The 2019 movie became the first Rated R movie to gross over $1 billion at the box office. Joker 2 will be out on October 4, 2024. Check out Gaga’s tweet below.
