Along with the announcement comes various discussions about casting choices

We have a new update for Apple TV+’s The Crowded Room. After the casting of Amanda Seyfried was announced last week, we have the next member. It will be Emmy Rossum, best known for her role of Fiona Gallagher in Showtime’s Shameless. The 10-episode drama with Tom Holland in the lead is written and executive produced by Akiva Goldsman. It will be directed by Pieces of a Woman director Kornél Mundruczó.

About the series

Apple described The Crowded Room as a seasonal anthology that tells stories of those that have struggled, and learned to live with mental illness. Goldsman is basing certain events from his own life, and has further designed it as a thriller. The rest of the story will be based on The Minds of Billy Milligan, the award-winning biography by Daniel Keyes.

Holland will play a man named Danny Sullivan, a man acquitted of a crime because he was suffering from dissociative identity disorder. Seyfriend stars as a clinical psychologist and a single mother, who has just faced the most challenging case in her career. Rossum stars as Holland’s mother, and is looking for a man to fulfill her dreams of salvation.

After Rossum, Sasha Lane (Conversations with Friends), Emma Laird (Mayor of Kingstown), and Christopher Abbott (Catch-22) also joined the cast.

Ever since Rossum’s casting announcement, netizens spoke about a big factor. Rossum is 35, playing the mother of Holland, 25. While many expressed their shock or mild annoyance, some Twitter users gave an explanation. The series is based off on a book, so she will be playing his mother in flashbacks.

So rest easy, shocked people.
