Harrison Ford Being in ‘Thunderbolts’ Announcement Blocked by Lucasfilm at D23

Marvel has been claimed to introduce Ford as General Ross this year

In a new set of claims, Harrison Ford has repeatedly been cast as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in the MCU after the passing of William Hurt, who originally played the character since 2008. Ford’s name was to be announced along with the casting for the upcoming Thunderbolts movie. The actor had been part of successful franchises like Star Wars and Blade Runner, and was even reportedly going to retire after the final Indiana Jones film.

It was in September that news of Harrison Ford being in the MCU began circulating. Many were quick to counter that Ford had “reportedly” decided to retire in 2023. But the rumors of him playing General Thunderbolt Ross in the Thunderbolts movie has been picking up steam. The news is still not confirmed, but there could be a reason why this happened.

As per Jeff Sneider from The Hot Mic podcast, the announcement of Ford’s was to come at Marvel’s panel at D23. However, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy made sure it didn’t happen. While both Lucasfilm and Marvel are subsidies of Disney, Kennedy wanted to make sure Indiana Jones 5 got all the attention. This bit of information indicates that his role in Thunderbolts, and to the MCU as a whole, might be large.

News On Thunderbolts

Marvel

The Thunderbolts is a team that is the equivalent of DC’s Suicide Squad. The movie will be starring Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, Hannah John-Kamen’s Ghost, Wyatt Russell’s US Agent and Olga Kurylenko’s Taskmaster. Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine might serve as administrator, but Harrison Ford as General Ross can be an absolute game changer. As many know, Ross transforms into the Red Hulk in the comics, a morally ambiguous character who can be a friend or a foe to everyone.

Either way, we can expect more news to come after Harrison Ford brings his Indiana Jones journey to a close.
